R&D

Striving to create future materials
and energy using IT and nano-technology.

High priorities for a 21st century society are the development of clean energy, the advanced use of resources and energy, and the recycling or such resources and energy, in order to best protect the global environment.

Our company's research and development department utilizes IT and nano-technology, and adopts various management resources in order to raise the efficiency of existing products and the development of new energy and materials.
In regards to research and development, we focus specifically on chemical machinery, ceramics, and venture businesses in the fields of general engineering.
In regards to chemical machinery business, we strive toward high efficiency through use of the MSC mill which can perform ultra-fine grinding at the nano level.
In regards to ceramics business, we have successfully completed development of high strength and low-thermal expansion ceramics (Product name: Macerite PG4). This new material can be used in testing devices for semiconductor wafers.
Future demand is expected to be high.
In regards to our venture businesses, progress in the development of carbon material for use in lithium-ion batteries for consumer use and in electric cars has been advanced. These achievements by Nippon Coke & Engineering Company are sure to greatly contribute to the environmental protection in the 21st Century.

Negative-electrode material (for lithium-ion secondary batteries)

Our negative-electrode material has been adopted for use in cell phones and computers. Furthermore, progress has also been made in material development for secondary batteries to be installed in electric cars.

Free-Cutting Ceramics (Macerite PG4)

Free-cutting ceramics by our Group can be ultrafine processed (small-hole processing: 60m). Among these, Macerite PG4 has higher strength and lower thermal expansion characteristics compared with conventional products (Macerite HSP), and has been put into practical use as material in testing devices for semiconductor wafers. Future demand is expected to be high.

Clean Energy

In the near future, large amounts of hydrogen will be needed in a hydrogen energy society. We have high expectations for our coke oven gas (COG) for hydrogen use.
